Geology and geophysics
Hydrogeological study of the region of Banská Štiavnica
Within the framework of the project, we reviewed all former hydrogeological studies undertaken in the region of Banská Štiavnica with the aim to complete the complex hydrogeological assessment of the region. Some localities suitable for the new source of drinking water were proposed as a part of the project outcome.
Implementation period: 1992
Veľký Lom – Lešť – geophysical exploration
We upgraded the knowledge of structural-tectonic geological structure of the area of Modrý Kameň – Veľký Lom – Červeňany thanks to the complex of geophysical methods used: geo-electrical methods, magnetometry, and gravimetry. The geophysical work was implemented as a part of the deposit prospecting exploration and contributed to the Pre-Tertiary relief survey of the bedrock and determination of deposit boundaries.
Implementation period: 1993 – 1996
Region of Banská Štiavnica – prognoses of mineral and thermal waters for the spa, recreation and tourism purposes
We conducted the geological exploration work (geophysics, geothermics, structural geology, hydrogeology and geochemistry), in the stage of regional geology research in the Banská Štiavnica region, which helped to complete the assessment of the mineral and thermal waters of the region along with the estimation of predicted yields. In addition, the geological exploration work selected localities of the explored region suitable for exploitation of the mineral and thermal waters for the above mentioned purposes.
Implementation period: 1998
Regional hydrogeological assessment of the Žiarská kotlina Basin – geophysical exploration
We conducted the geophysical exploration work (geo-electrical methods, gravimetry) in the area of Žiarská Valley in order to complete its hydrogeological assessment. The geophysical methods used contributed to the determination of volcano-sedimentary complex and helped to draw up both the relief of the Pre-Tertiary bedrock in the tectonic form and geological-geophysical model of the volcano-sedimentary complex with its bedrock.
Implementation period: 1999
Neovolcanites of the northern slopes of the Štiavnické vrchy Mts. – hydrogeological prospecting exploration
Within the framework of this task the detailed gravimetry and geo-electrical methods in the town residential area of Banská Štiavnica together with the thermometric methods on the selected water courses in the Štiavnické vrchy Mt. and Javorie Mt. were used. The course of a fault line accompanying the Grüner lode and the course of Kalvárska fault line were determined more precisely by interpretation of the data obtained by the detailed geophysical exploration. An exploration well was located into the space above the fault lines crossing which in accordance with our assumption intercepted thermal underground water moving up from the bedrock. By other thermometric exploration conducted on the selected courses of the Štiavnické vrchy Mt. and Javorie Mt. (The Jasenica, Hron, Slatina rivers) many occurrences of groundwater penetrations rising by stealth directly in the stream-beds were located.
Implementation period: 2001 – 2002
Alluvial plain of the Morava river – geophysical exploration
We conducted the geophysical exploration in the alluvial plain of the Morava river in the section of Kúty – Bratislava with the aim to study and work out the prognosis of the processes leading to the river bed development. The geophysical work was focused on identification of the geobarrier presence in the river bed and its close vicinity. The thickness and lithological abundance of Quaternary sediments and their underlying bedrock were determined and the selected types were classified according to the degree of wash-out (the resistance to water erosion).
Implementation period: 1995 – 1996
