Erosion and runoff

Complex programme of protection against erosion and proposal of measures for the increase of retention potential of the Slovak Republic territory in the division according to individual partial watersheds (so far the water courses of the Hron, Ipeľ, Slaná, Poprad-Dunajec, Bodrog, and Hornád rivers have been completed)
The task is focused on the assessment of retention and erosion-accumulation properties of the watershed based on the assessment of the properties and function of the landscape structure elements and their synergic eff ect. Another aim is to prepare a proposal of measures preventing erosion and measures for the increase of the retention potential of the territory.
The following partial issues have been tackled during the project
- spatial analysis of the landscape structure and the spatial database creation – creation of hydro-ecological complexes (complex landscape-ecological units which are homogeneous from the view of their hydrological response)
- hydrological modelling of precipitation runoff processes with the aim to determine value Q(t) [m3] on the measured, or calculated position of the surface stream depending on the amount of atmospheric precipitations Z(t) [in m3 or mm] and other meteorologically relevant conditions
- evaluation of retention properties of hydroecological complexes based on the properties of landscape structure elements and their synergic eff ect
- identifi cation and quantitative assessment of erosion-accumulation processes in the watersheds with the use of erosion model
- evaluation of functions of individual elements of landscape structure and preparation of proposals of the measures to improve retention and erosion preventing properties of the assessed watershed. at the simultaneous use of the leading element (relief) method, the abiocomplexes were characterized by a set of parameters representing the georelief, soil, soil-forming substrate and geological bedrock features.
Implementation period: 2003 – 2007
